As we approach the end of college basketball season you'll get some posts from Chad and I on other topics as well. I know I'll post some on the NBA Draft and I'm sure we'll both post on baseball. Well, my first baseball post of the season is just this picture. Look at it! This is ridiculous! Look at the defensive alignment! Baseball at the LA Coliseum looks pretty ridiculous.

I may like College BB but baseball is more along my expertise.
That said, of course this defensive alignment is ridiculous (unless you want to give up inside the park HRs!)--according to my reference books LA Coliseum has these dimensions:
LF: 251'
(Note: Any wall less than 250' in fair territory is a double NOT a HR--great if you bat right and are a pull hitter)
Left Center: 320'
CF: 420'
Right Center: 380'
RF: 300'
Also remember, games in this park are exempt from the rule that walls should be a minimum of 325 feet.
Correction: That should be hit over any wall closer than 250 feet is a double.
It's just fun. I mean, it's still preseason so it obviously doesn't matter, but that's a funny picture to see. I'm just excited that actual full days of baseball are ahead!
You bet--I'd hate to see how you would play a shift--no team would be silly enough to play six players or more on one side of that park.
I love the fact that baseball is here again--season started for me already in that my Yellow Jackets are 22-5 (It's a bit cold in February when college gets started).
Do hate the fact that the Braves dropped the opener to the Nats--their new ballpark may be nice but they'll still lose 90 games.
I really wish college baseball was easier to follow on a national basis. It can be hard enough to follow on a local basis and it's a shame because it's really great.
The NL East should be a war this year but you're right, the Nationals figure to be no where near there. I did have fun seeing their lineup today though. I mean, I'm interested to see how guys like Kearns and Zimmerman do in a less ridiculous home ballpark. It'll be fun to see how Milledge does given a year of at bats at the big league level. It'll be interesting to see how many people Dukes kills. But it's probably a bad sign if Odalis Perez is your Opening Day starter.
